Instructors

Steven Page, Director - a native of Paducah Kentucky, earned his B.M.E. from Murray State University in 1998 and his M.M. (trombone) from the University of Louisville in 1999.  He teaches band at Henderson County High School, a program that involves over 150 students divided into three concert bands that meet each day and perform concert literature year-round.  He also oversees the Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and Percussion Ensemble; all extra-curricular groups that meet after school.  Page taught as band director at both West Jessamine Middle School and High School in Nicholasville for seven years, where he served on the SBDM and was chairperson for the music department.  In his seven years at West Jessamine, the bands grew by over 200%.  With over 300 students in the program, the bands performed for over 200,000 people, earning Distinguished ratings in concert and marching band.  During this time, over half of WJ Band graduates continued playing in college at 15 different universities.  In service to Kentucky Music Educators Association, Page is the State Band Chairperson and he served as the Band Chairperson for District 7 from 2002-2004 and on the 2001, 2005-2008 Conference Planning Committee.  Active as an adjudicator for Drum Corps International and the Central States Judging Association, Page has judged marching band and drum & bugle corps at over fifty events in eleven states.  He is a proud member of KMEA and Phi Mu Alpha.  Steven and his wife, Shana, met in high school and they have been married for seven years.  God has blessed them with three, little boys.  Grainger is four and enjoys doing somersaults.  Gus is two and likes Thomas the Tank Engine.  HG was born in February and he only sleeps & eats.  The Page family attends Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Paul Metzger, Director (South Middle School)-

Keith Vincent, Director (North Middle School)-  Keith Vincent is currently the Director of Bands at Henderson North Middle School , in Henderson, KY. His responsibilities include the teaching and administrating of nearly 300 students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands, jazz band, pep band, and various ensembles throughout the year.  Mr. Vincent is a native of Henderson and has returned to the Henderson County School System after 2 years with a neighboring district.  In returning to the Henderson County School System, Mr. Vincent is indeed "coming home".  He had previously taught for 4 years at South Middle School and also taught for 4 years at HCHS. In addition to his responsibilities at NMS, he also assists with the Marching Band at County High .  NMS is fortunate to have a band director with the experience of Mr. Vincent teaching our students.   A graduate of Western Kentucky University , Mr. Vincent began teaching in 1983.  He also received his Master's Degree from WKU.  Over the years he has accumulated numerous honors and awards.  In 2001 he was named Outstanding Band Director in Kentucky , in 2000 he was awarded the Kentucky High School Teacher of the Year honor.  He has served as All State Band Chair and All District Band Chair for Districts 2 & 3.  He also received the 3rd District Citation of Excellence.  In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Vincent serves as Director of Music at Chapel Hill Methodist Church and enjoys performing around the Tri-State area playing guitar and singing.  

 

Nancy Page, a little bit of everythingMrs. Nancy S. Page received her BME and MME from Murray State University.   A middle school band director since 1970, she has taught in the Murray Independent Schools , McCracken County Schools , and Paducah Independent Schools .  Active in  K.M.E.A., Mrs. Page has served as President of the First District Band Directors Association, All-State Band Co-Chair, State Middle School Instrumental Chairperson, and member of the Festival Contest Commission. In 1972, Mrs. Page established the First District Middle School Honor Band and in 1987 was selected Kentucky Middle School Music Teacher of the year.  In 2002, she was chosen Outstanding Bandmaster in Kentucky by Phi Beta Mu National Honorary Band Directors Fraternity.  Mrs. Page is active as clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor.  She is a member and past officer of Phi Beta Mu, and KMEA.  She has directed church music at Reidland United Methodist Church from 1974 until 1992 and at Trinity United Methodist Church from 1993 until present. She and her husband, Tony, have two sons, Steven and Alan, and four grandsons, Grainger, Gus, H.G., and Harrison. Tony and Nancy are members of Trinity United Methodist Church .

Dawn Pendley, Flute-  Dawn Pendley has been playing flute for over 40 years and teaching for more than 25.  She graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1994 with a Bachelors in Flute Performance.  She is a member of the National Flute Association and has performed with the Bowling Green Symphony Orchestra - (piccolo, 2nd, and principal), the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra, and as a sub for the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.

Stacy Cloum, Oboe - Stacey Cloum is currently a Junior at the University of Evansville, majoring in Music Management where she studies oboe under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Robertson.  In the 7th grade, she begain taking lessons with Jennifer Kirkman of Kokomo, Indiana, then continued her studies with Malcolm Smith of Butler University for one year.  Stacey performs with the Kokomo Park Band during the summer months, and has performed with the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra.  She is a member her home church's instrumental group, in which she performs whenever she is in town.  While at school, Stacey has performed oboe and english horn as a member of the University of Evansville's Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and University Band. 

Anne Wilcheck-Schuessler, Clarinet-  Anne Wilcheck-Schuessler received a Music Education Degree from University of Evansville and a Masters in Clarinet Performance from Indiana University.  After college, Anne was the Head Band Director at Daviess County Middle School and the Asst. Band Director at Daviess County High School for 9 years.  After the birth of her son, Christian, Anne moved to Henderson where she taught at H.C.H.S. and North Jr. High for 2 years.  Currently, Anne is the Woodwind Specialist for Castle High School in Newburgh, IN and teaches about 70 private students each week through her music business, Perfect Practice.  Anne was a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra for 23 years and has been a member of the Owensboro Symphony since 1983.

Carrie White, Woodwinds & Clarinet Choir-  Carrie White is currently in her fifth year as a clarinet major at the University of Evansville.  She will graduate in December 2007 with a degree in Music Performance.  She currently works as a Woodwind Instructor at Henderson County High School, teaching sectionals, lessons, and running the Clarinet Choir.  In addition she also teaches for the band programs for Castle High School, Castle Jr. High, and F. J. Reitz High School in various capacities.  She maintains an active studio of ten private students.  As a performer, she is active at the University playing principal in both the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra and in various other ensembles.  Outside of the University, she is a member of the Evansville Symphonic Band and plays various gigs around town. 

Brian Bosley, saxophone- Brian Bosley is currently a junior at the University of Evansville, majoring in Music Education where he studies saxophone with Dr. Edwin Lacy and clarinet with Dr. Thomas Josenhans.  He is a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and is currently a woodwind instructor for both Mt. Vernon and Bosse High Schools.  Brian has a studio of nine students studying both clarinet and saxophone.  With the university Brian plays saxophone in the wind ensemble as well as bassoon in the university band.  He also plays saxophone in the top jazz ensemble, bass clarinet in the clarinet choir, and many other ensembles.  Outside of the university Brian plays tenor saxophone with the Evansville Symphonic Band and various other gigs around the area. 

Tim Smith, Trumpet- Timothy Smith attended the Interlochen Arts Academy while in high school. He continued his music studies at Indiana University and Ball State University, where he received a Bachelor of Music Degree in trumpet performance. Tim's performance experience is extensive, including a five year tour with the Las Vegas based Russ Morgan Orchestra. During his tenure with the group, he performed with some of the top names in the industry . . . The Supremes, Wayne Newton, The Temptations, Natalie Cole, and Doc Severinson.  Currently, Tim is a full-time private instructor and clinician in the Evansville area. He performs with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, the Key West Symphony and is a founding member of the Evansville Brass Quintet. Mr. Smith is principal trumpet of the Evansville Symphonic Band. Private study was done with Everett Northcut and Bill Adam.

Erin Schmidt, Horn- Ms. Schmidt is the consortium instructor of horn at UE and principal horn of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. She is also 3rd horn in the Lancaster Music Festival (OH). Ms. Schmidt received her Bachelor of Music in horn performance from the University of Dayton and her Master of Music in horn performance from the University of Miami. Prior to coming to Evansville, Ms. Schmidt was the principal horn of the Billings Symphony Orchestra for 4 years. During her time out West, she also served as acting principal horn of the Spokane Symphony Ochestra. She has served as an adjunct instructor of horn at the following universities: Rocky Mountain College, Whitworth College and Montana State University-Billings.

Bill Shaltis, Percussion Ensemble- William Shaltis is principal percussion with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, section percussion with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and consortium faculty at the University of Evansville. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Shaltis was a freelance musician in the Boston area, performing with organizations such as Boston Baroque, Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Lyric Opera, the Portland (ME) Symphony, and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra.  Mr. Shaltis' diverse performance background includes principal timpani with the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra and Capital City Brass Band, cymbals with the New England Mehterhane (a Janissary band featuring traditional Turkish music and instruments), snare drum with the Michigan State University drumline and drum set with numerous theater shows and rock bands. He was also invited to the Aspen Music Festival and School for two summers, performing with the festival and chamber orchestras.  Mr. Shaltis received a Bachelor of Music in music education from Michigan State University and a Master of Music in performance from the Boston Conservatory. His principal teachers included Alison Shaw and David Gross (MSU), and Salvatore Rabbio, Pat Hollenbeck, John Grimes, Keith Aleo, David Herbert, and Nancy Zeltsman (Boston Conservatory).

Scott Dallas, Percussion Lessons- Scott Dallas is presently the Band Director at Mt. Vernon Junior High School in Mt. Vernon Indiana. He is also the Assistant Band Director at the high school. Scott 's main instrument is percussion, and he has worked with many local schools teaching both marching percussion techniques as well as percussion ensembles for over 20 years. He is a 1993 graduate of Murray State University and marched in the 1987 and 1988 seasons of the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps as part of their tenor line.

Sarah Emerson, Guard Staff- Sarah is a 1999 graduate of Trigg County High school and a 2003 graduate of Murray State University where she earned a degree in English secondary education.  She will graduate with a Masters in Literature from WKU in the fall of 2008.  Sarah has worked with numerous guards in the state including Reidland High School, Marshall County High School, Daviess County High School, McClean County High School, and is currently working with Henderson County High School and Madisonville North Hopkins High School.  In addition to teaching guard, Sarah is an 8th grade English teacher and dance team coach at College View Middle School in Owensboro, KY.  She and her husband, Alan Emerson, live in Henderson.

 Ashley Jones, Guard Staff -  Ashley is a 2002 graduate from Madisonville North Hopkins High School.  There, she participated in colorguard and winterguard for four years and a member of Eklipse Performance Group for two years.  Miss Jones is currently in the Nursing Program at Madisonville Community College.

Alicia Kittinger, Guard Staff-  Alicia graduated from Madisonville North Hopkins High School in 2005. There, she performed with the color guard and winter guard for four years. Miss Kittinger attends Kentucky Wesleyan College to study Spanish, and she participated in the band there for one year.

Russ Shartzer, Visual Staff-  Russell is a 1992 graduate of Greenwood High School. Russell has performed in college wind ensembles, orchestras, jazz bands, jazz quartets and quintets, brass quintets, brass bands, and bluegrass folk bands. Russell attended the University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University for music education. Over the years, Russell has taught many ensembles both musically and visually.  Russell is married to his lovely wife and has a daughter and a son. They reside in Sellersburg, Indiana.
